ABRF 2013 Travel Awards

Travel awards to the ABRF Annual Meeting are available to MWACD members who have made outstanding scientific and/or administrative contributions in their institutional core facilities; have developed new biotechnologies with applications in core facilities; and/or have been active in MWACD and/or ABRF activities. The award is to be used to offset the cost of attending “ABRF2013: Tools for the Advancement of Convergent Science” to be held in Palm Springs, California. The deadline for applications is January 18th.

  The award amount is $1,100 may be used to offset meeting registration, satellite educational workshop registration, and travel costs associated with meeting attendance. (see below).

Qualifying Expenses:  Meeting and Satellite Educational Workshop Registration, Airfare or Train travel (including baggage fees) – Economy class airfare or train travel from the city of residence to Palm Springs, CA. Mileage if traveling to the conference by car (in place of air or train travel), based on current federal rates.  Mileage to get to and from the airport in your city of residence will not be reimbursed.  If an individual is driving, mileage will be reimbursed up to the amount an air or train ticket would have cost, or whichever is least. Taxis to and from the airport in your city of residence and to and from the airport in Palm Springs (Both the Renaissance and the Hilton offer complimentary shuttle service to/from the airport). Payments are based on actual expenses so original receipts will be required for reimbursement. 

Please note that the ABRF does not reimburse for costs of rental cars, internet or telephone charges, alcohol, printing charges, or other incidentals not listed above. Internet in your guest room is provided free of charge for the ABRF group at the both the Renaissance and the Hilton. Meals will not be reimbursed through the MWACD Travel Award.

Applicants will need to complete the application form (see below) to be eligible.  The applicant should be sure to highlight the contributions they have made to their core and what the applicant hopes to gain from attendance. Please note that applicants must be members of ABRF at the time of their application, and are required to attend the awards session of the meeting in order to accept their award.  Oral/poster presentations are encouraged but not required to receive a travel award. 

Those who have received an ABRF travel award within the past three years are not eligible.
